Portions of two Spanish land grant Ranchos, originally owned by the Nieto family, make up what is now Long Beach. The Ranchos were Rancho Los Cerritos and Rancho Los Alamitos. These three portraits are of the first American owners of Rancho Los Alamitos (in order): Abel Stearns, John W. Bixby, and Fred Bixby.
